About Me
Lucy
Furniss
Experience and Current Practice
I have been in private practice since 2015 and have journeyed with many people; both young and old, male and female, non binary and trans, with different sexual orientations and a variety of issues and trauma. I now work only with adults over 18.
My focus has broadened to include a variety of ways of working and sharing my experience. I continue to offer individual therapy for adults and am also developing therapeutic group work. Collaborating with others allows me to provide further experiences/retreats incorporating therapeutic time out in nature. In 2024, I will be completing my Supervision training and now offer individual and group Supervision.
I am experienced in supporting adult survivors of child abuse, either emotional, physical or sexual, through my prior counselling work for over 3 years with Dorset Action on Abuse/Hurting 2 Healing. I also counselled young people for a New Forest charity, It's Your Choice, and have worked giving therapy to students at Southampton University for 6 months.
Alongside my private practice, I am also a visiting lecturer for Wight Counselling Training Institute for their Integrative Counselling Diploma. I lectured for Eastleigh College on their Diploma in Humanistic and Gestalt Counselling in 2018.
Qualifications
I commence my Certificate in Supervision with Relational Change in 2024.
In 2023, I became a registered Wild Therapist after training for over a year. You can find me on www.wild-therapy.co.uk
In 2018, I completed my 3 year MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy at Metanoia Institiute in London; qualifying me as a psychotherapist. This followed my initial counselling training at Eastleigh College, where I obtained a distinction in my Diploma in Humanistic and Gestalt Counselling.
Continuing professional development is an essential element of my ongoing practice and I have completed numerous courses regarding: group facilitation, body oriented therapy, schizoid and borderline processes, OCD, eating disorders, working alongside trans, non-binary and gender questioning people, bereavement and grief, dissociation, mental health and psychosis.
I am a member of the UK Council of Psychotherapists and abide by their code of ethics.
